The 2026 NBA playoffs are officially here, and if you don't have cable TV, don't panic. You don't need a cable subscription to watch every single game of the postseason. Below, we're breaking down every way you can watch the NBA playoffs without cable — whether you're on a computer, your phone, your tablet, your smart TV, or just using a plain old antenna and a television.
What Channels Are Airing the 2026 NBA Playoffs?
This season is the first under the NBA's brand new 11-year media rights deal, and a lot has changed. Gone is TNT. In its place, you now have four broadcasters splitting up the action:
ABC and ESPN are carrying about 18 games in the first two rounds, plus the Eastern Conference Finals and, most importantly, the NBA Finals, which air exclusively on ABC starting June 3rd.
NBC and Peacock — NBC is back with the NBA for the first time since 2002. They're carrying about 28 games in the first two rounds, plus the Western Conference Finals.
Amazon Prime Video has all six games of the SoFi NBA Play-In Tournament, which runs April 14th through 17th, plus a big chunk of the first and second round playoff games.
To watch everything, you'll need a combination of a few of these options. But here's the good news: none of them requires cable.
How to Watch the 2026 NBA Playoffs on a Computer
ABC and ESPN Games Head to espn.com or the ESPN app. ABC games actually stream for free on the ABC website and app without needing a cable TV login, especially for the NBA Finals.
NBC and Peacock Games Go to peacock.com. Peacock carries every NBC game. You don't need cable to subscribe. Peacock has a free tier, though you may need the paid tier for live sports. We've shown customers in previous videos how to get a Peacock subscription for free.
Amazon Prime Video Games Including all Play-In Tournament games, go to primevideo.com. If you're not already a Prime member, Amazon offers a 30-day free trial, which covers the entire Play-In Tournament and the start of the first round. You can also watch through a live TV streaming service on your browser — more on that below.
How to Watch the 2026 NBA Playoffs on a Phone or Tablet
All of these options have apps. There's an ESPN app, a Peacock app, and an Amazon Prime Video app. If you opt for a cable TV substitute streaming package, YouTube TV, Hulu Plus Live TV, DirecTV Stream, Sling TV, and FuboTV all have apps you can install on your smartphone or tablet.
How to Watch the NBA Playoffs Free with a TV Antenna
Here's a completely free option that a lot of people forget about: a good old-fashioned TV antenna. ABC broadcasts over the air to local TV towers across the country. If you plug an HD antenna into your TV, you can likely pick up ABC for free — no subscription, no streaming, no cable bill.
For best reception, we recommend an outdoor antenna on a 20-foot pole. However, you can use an outdoor antenna in your attic or in your house, pointed out a window — you just won't get as good a reception as you would on a 20-foot pole. If you live close enough to the tower, you may even be able to pick up these stations with an indoor antenna.
NBC also broadcasts over the air, so you'll be able to pick up NBC games for free as well, depending on your location.
These antennas are inexpensive. You can find one online or at electronics stores for as little as $20 to $40. Just plug it into the back of your TV, run a channel scan, and you're good to go.
How to Watch the NBA Playoffs on a Smart TV or Streaming Device
This is where it all comes together for your big screen. Many TVs today are smart TVs. If yours is capable of installing the apps you need, great. If not, you can use one of the following streaming devices:
- Roku
- Amazon Fire TV or Fire Stick
- Google TV or Chromecast
- Apple TV
Some newer TVs now come with Roku, Amazon TV, or Google TV built in. All of the major streaming services and apps are available on these platforms.
Here's what to download:
- ESPN app
- Peacock app
- Amazon Prime Video app
- YouTube TV
- Hulu Plus Live TV
- DirecTV Stream
- Sling TV
- FuboTV
On a Roku: Go to the Roku Channel Store and search for any of these apps.
On a Fire TV Stick: Prime Video is already built in. Add everything else from the Amazon App Store.
On Google TV or Chromecast: Find apps in the Google Play Store.
On Apple TV: Search for them in the App Store.
Once you're signed into your streaming service or individual apps, it works just like cable — on your own schedule and without the bill. And quite often you can watch on delay, fast forward, rewind, and even skip past commercials.
