Are you still writing a check to your cable company every month, even though you barely watch half of what you're paying for? Here's something your cable company is definitely not advertising: you don't need a cable subscription to watch a single game of the 2026 NHL Stanley Cup playoffs. Not the first round, not the Conference Finals, not even the Stanley Cup Final.
In this guide, Bryan Longworth, host of A Faster PC Live Technical Support, breaks down every way to stream the 2026 NHL playoffs on your TV, computer, smartphone, or tablet — including one option that costs you nothing after a one-time purchase of about $40.
Where the 2026 NHL Playoff Games Actually Air
Before you pick a streaming service, you need to know where the games actually live. This is where most people get confused and end up paying for the wrong thing. The 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs are split across five networks: ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, and TruTV.
- Early rounds bounce across all five networks.
- The Conference Finals move to ABC.
- The Stanley Cup Final in June airs exclusively on TNT.
Because the games are spread across five different networks, no single streaming service covers everything — unless you know exactly what to look for. That's exactly what this guide covers.
Live TV Streaming Bundles — The Closest Thing to Cable Without the Contract
These are what Bryan calls "cable TV streaming substitute packages." Think of them as cable, but without the contract, without the installation appointment, and without the price locked in for two years. You subscribe month to month and cancel anytime.
YouTube TV — $83/month
YouTube TV is the most popular option and carries all five playoff networks: ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, and TruTV. New subscribers get a free trial, so you can watch some games before paying a dollar.
Hulu Plus Live TV — $89.99/month
Hulu Plus Live TV covers all five networks and bundles in Disney Plus and ESPN Unlimited, so you're getting a lot more than just live sports. New subscribers get a three-day free trial.
Sling TV — $60.99/month
Sling TV is the budget-friendly option. Their Orange plus Blue plan starts at $60.99 a month and covers all five playoff networks. Want NHL Network too? Add the Sports Extra package for an extra $11.
FuboTV — $79.99/month
FuboTV carries ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC and gives you over 200 channels total. New subscribers get a five-day free trial.
DirecTV Stream — $59.99 first month, then $94.99/month
DirecTV Stream covers all five playoff networks, including NHL Network, and gives you more than 125 channels. The price goes up after the first month, so factor that in.
The move before you pick any of these: check the current free trials. Use the trial to watch games, then decide if you want to keep it. You are not locked in.
Middle Ground — Streaming Apps Without a Full Bundle
If most of the games you care about are on ABC, ESPN, and ESPN2, you have a lighter option.
ESPN Unlimited — $29.99/month (or $34.99 bundled with Disney Plus and Hulu)
ESPN Unlimited on its own covers ABC, ESPN, and ESPN2. Bundle it with Disney Plus and Hulu for $34.99 a month if you want more than just sports.
Max (formerly HBO Max) — $10.99/month ad-supported, $18.49/month ad-free
Max carries the TNT games. If you're watching live, you're going to watch the ads anyway, so the $10.99 tier is worth considering.
Here's the catch: neither ESPN Unlimited nor Max covers all five networks on its own. If you want every game from the first round through the Stanley Cup Final, you'll need both apps together, or one of the live TV bundles above. If you're mainly focused on the Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Final, ESPN Unlimited might be all you need. And if you're already a Max subscriber, you're already covered for TNT.
H2: The Free Option Most People Completely Overlook — A TV Antenna
This is the one most people dismiss without thinking about it. A TV antenna. Yes, it is old technology. But it still works better than most people realize.
ABC broadcasts playoff games over the air in HD. Completely free. That includes the Conference Finals. All you need is a digital antenna plugged into the back of your TV. No subscription, no streaming account, no monthly bill — ever.
An outdoor antenna runs around $40 to $50 and picks up signals from up to 60 miles away. Some customers have mounted one on a 20-foot pole and picked up stations from as far as 100 miles away. Before you buy, visit the FTC's antenna signal checker at https://www.fcc.gov/media/engineering/dtvmaps and enter your zip code to see what channels are available in your area.
For most residents of Florida's Treasure Coast, Space Coast, and South Florida, you are in great shape. A one-time cost of around $40 gets you the Conference Finals for free, every year.
What Devices Can You Watch On?
You probably don't need to buy anything new.
On Your TV All the streaming services covered here work on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Firestick, Google TV, Chromecast, Apple TV, and most modern smart TVs. Many TVs already come with Roku, Amazon TV, or Google TV built in.
On Your Computer Every service — YouTube TV, Hulu, Sling, FuboTV, DirecTV Stream, ESPN, and Max — has a website you can open in any browser. No app download required.
On Your Phone or Tablet Download the app from the App Store or Google Play, sign in, and you're watching from anywhere — your couch, a waiting room, a break room at the office.
